Love, legacy and a spectacular piece of jewelry took center stage this past weekend as Gracie Hunt announced her engagement to Derek Green — and her ring is already sparking conversation among jewelry lovers.

The 27-year-old daughter of Kansas City Chiefs CEO Clark Hunt shared the news in a joint Instagram post on Saturday, writing simply, “It was always you.” The post featured a dreamy series of images capturing the romantic proposal: a candlelit outdoor setting framed by an altar of white flowers, with family and friends looking on as Green, 26, got down on one knee.

But it’s the ring — bold, elegant and subtly symbolic — that has truly captured our attention.

The center stone has been widely described as an emerald-cut diamond, a classic choice known for its long, clean lines and hall-of-mirrors brilliance. However, a closer look suggests the possibility of a radiant-cut or elongated cushion-cut diamond — both of which offer a softer outline and more scintillating sparkle. Either way, the center stone appears substantial, likely in the 3-carat-plus range, and secured in a prong setting designed to maximize light return.

The band itself adds another layer of intrigue. Crafted in what appears to be white gold or platinum, the split-shank design is adorned with pavé-set diamonds that cascade along the shoulders, enhancing the ring’s overall brilliance. But the most distinctive detail is a single emerald accent nestled along the band — a rare and personal touch in an engagement ring.

That flash of green may carry more meaning than meets the eye.

Observers have been quick to point out the playful symbolism: with her fiancé’s last name, Hunt could soon become “Gracie Green.” Even her mother, Tavia Hunt, hinted at the connection on social media, noting that “Gracie Green has a nice ring to it.” Whether intentional or serendipitous, the emerald accent adds a poetic layer to an already meaningful piece.

The couple’s love story stretches back years. Hunt and Green first met in 2017 and remained friends before their relationship turned romantic in 2025. Both share ties to football — she as a prominent figure in the Chiefs organization and he as the son of former Chiefs quarterback Trent Green, as well as a former college and international player himself. They also share academic roots at Southern Methodist University.

Their engagement marks not only a personal milestone, but also a merging of two NFL-connected families — a fitting backdrop for a proposal that blended intimacy with elegance.
